Another Chance for Corradi ?

After the end of last season, Bernado Corradi was probably near the top of most peoples' lists of players for a quick City exit, although some of you may remember that back in March I did this article about the big Italian striker when he was copping a lot of flak.

Sometimes, bringing a new manager in can re-vitalise a flagging player's career and I wonder if this may be the case for Corradi?

Having seen the action from this afternoon's 1 - 3 win over Doncaster, Corradi scored an absolute stunner. If only he'd done that a few times during the course of last season, the talk would have probably been about a contract extension rather than a quick exit.

I noticed that Sven singled Bernado out for praise in the post match interview which suggests to me that it's not a forgone conclusion that he will leave. Having said that, I'm sure if City get an offer that recoups the bulk of the £2m we paid for him, then he would probably go.

I'm probably going to suffer the wrath of many Blues when I say that Corradi should be given a chance with Sven at the helm. For sure, he's never going to be an Anelka, Henri or Torres, but with the right formation and some decent service from the wings, there's always room in any squad for a big, fearless "traditional" centre forward, which is exactly what Corradi is.

I think it was a bit unfair on Corradi that it seemed to be very fashionable and easy thing to rubbish him mercilessly last season. A few negative reports seemed to start a bandwagon, but despite his shortcomings on the pitch, he gave 100% and looked up for it in the wave of a lot of stick, much of it undeserved.

Maybe Sven will have the midas touch on both Corradi & Samaras. We've yet to see anywhere near the best of them. Last season they were hamstrung by poor tactics and played out of position by Psycho. The arrival of Bianchi along with Mpenza should really heat up the competition for the strikers roles. It'll be interesting to see who will rise to the challenge.

Before passing judgement, have you seen his girlfriend? Forget Nancy, a quick google on Elena Santarelli will explain all, including the games where he did seem to run out of steam, and who can blame him ;-)

There..... I've ignited the blue touchpaper..... now waiting for the fireworks.

good goal today, but it's come too late for him

I for one was not in favour of him getting the boot I could name a few others who should be further up the firing line. Like you I think that getting a reasonable service he will put away more than he misses. At least he will always have a go given the chance, lets hope the new Manager does the trick for him.

Totally agree with you. both players were badly managed by psycho and I have always thought that there was more to them and maybe sven can bring it out of them..dare I say it but look how rooney looked lost when played out of position so its a problem for all footballers. give em til january and offload then. both have good pasts and should shine under sven...least we forget corradi set up subaru's goal today.

very much agree with you. For all we know all of the forwards are crap but until they get proper service how can anyone judge them? I really want to see a winger get to the line and pull the ball back for Samaras in particular. On the rare occasion that has happened Samaras looks a class player.

I've always said the problem was a lack of pace and no proper wide players in the squad coupled with the improper use of our players by Stuart Pearce!

Nice to see that I'm not alone on the Corradi issue. Now if only Sven could tempt SWP back

The new kid fernandes is a playmaker so maybe he can supply the sort of ball that both samaras and corradi need to do the business. And Im sure they will.

Agree with wallace- how many times did we have a run down the wing and a cross ball for the attackers.....not many, the service just wasnt there last season but im sure sven will see to that.

you're right his bird's well fit, seriously though if he gets another chance under sven and comes good then fine, if not sven will replace him. personally i'm just looking forward to a good season

Both Corradi and Samaras worked hard for the team last year, but unfortunately with few goals to show for their efforts - especially as team confidence diminished. Perhaps a new manager will reignite confidence and see them both becoming more productive in the goal scoring department. Corradi certainly looked sharp versus Doncaster - and may link up well with Bianchi, his new fellow countryman, so lets give him a chance!

I don't think there's any hurry to get rid, we don't need him or Samaras off the wages bill, we have money to buy players, they can play their way into the team or into the shop window if we decide to sell. It's so nice not to be a selling club any more :)

I like the idea of giving Corradi a chance and suspect he could do okay with an intelligent playmaker or good wingers/wing backs. However the pressure on him to score and do well i think will be too overwhelming for him simply because i can see it now the first time he misses a sitter next season loads of idiots will be slamming their seats and booing - thats not an healthy environment to play football. (Or even more worringly and disgraceful booed onto the pitch ala Samaras at home to Chelsea - real supporters my arse, total fuckin' thick wankers in my opinion). I remember when we were a by and large a forgiving crowd but now we seem infested by loads of utterly cynical and opinionated luddites who almost want certain players to fail so they can be proved right. If i don't particularly rate a player i still get behind them as slatin' them is definitely not going to help them or our attempt to sell them at a reasonable price. The only time i possibly condone booing is after the final whistle to the team as a whole - and even that is probably only self-defeating. Samaras we should worry less about as he's got obvious talent and he is not 23 years old until next Feb/March ( 2 years younger than Bianchi) - i think he just needs to be nurtured and do some upper body strength work and he could be a star.

Reports today that Sven chasing Crouch. If that's true, it would certainly signal the end for either Corradi and Samaras, or maybe both.

Also, guys - thanks for all comments, but can we try and tone the language a little. I know a lot of kids reads this site - cheers

Definitely agree with you. I felt sorry for Corradi last season. He worked hard and, in my opinion, awful tactics were largely to blame for our poor return up front. I have a sneaking feeling that, with some decent service from the flanks, he might actually turn out to be useful player.

Forget Crouch it's the usual media drivel....of the two players signed did anyone see their names mentioned in the Press....I think not !!

Sven is his own man and will only sign players who will play for the cause and not for a fat pay cheque.

i totally agree with everything you have said.
but i feel he may still have to go because of comments he made to the press. maybe he will have a negitive impact in the dressing room

I think any striker (incl Bianchi) would have struggled to score with City last season. The team's confidence was low. Give Corradi another chance.

Corradi worked hard... and stuck his head in fearlessly... Samaras looked after his hair and tripped on the ball... Keep Corradi, please sell Samaras

Saw Bianchi play with Reggina... he times his runs well... is very good in the air and with the right service, he will do well.

At £8.8m, I'll glad to hear it. Look forward to seeing him and all the new signings in the Thomas Cook v Valencia

Corradi was made a scapegoat for a team and a manager that was lucky to stay in the prem. With a real midfield and wingers he will score goals. He deserves a chance and the mass calls for him to go and the boos I heard against him last season were another low point in the supposed 'support' of some so called fans.
