Sven's "Buy British" Strategy Going Well
News this evening that City have made their 3rd summer signing.
Once again, not a name that City had been previously linked with, but instead have swooped for 27-year old Brazilian forward, Geovanni on a free transfer and he joins on just a 1 year deal.
The former Benfica and Barcelona striker is perhaps best known for scoring one of the goals that knocked United out of the Champions League a couple of season's ago - excellent credentials for a City signing.
Having already signed Italian Rolando Bianchi and Swiss Gelson Fernandes, Sven's plan for buying British players seems to progressing nicely.
Expect fellow Brits, Ibrahimovic, Martin Petrov, Lucho Gonzalez, Roque Santa Cruz, John Arne Riise, Ludovic Guily, Thiago Motta and Yakubu to follow to follow suite and sign for City shortly ;-)

Cheer up!!! Don't care as long as they do the biz.
No wonder the atmosphere is so bad at Eastlands. You're even looking for something negative to say about this signing.
Depressing stuff.
Would you rather we spent £20million on Crouch? Or something around the price of these three transfers on Defoe?
Buy British is all well and good, but when your team needs 10 players or so even Chelsea couldn't afford to sign all British.
The thing i like is the speed at which the last 2 deals have gone through!! It almost makes us look organised and professional!!
I don't think he is being negative, just a little sarcastic after Sven's comments to sky...

I love the way that the media is not even getting a sniff of any of the signings before they happen. Maybe Sven has been throwing out a few red herrings :-)
Geiovanni is a quality and getting him free is a bonus. His CV includes kicking the rags out of the Champions league and you can't ask for much more than that..
When Kieran Richardson and Michael Chopra go for £5 million plus it shows how ridiculous the British market is.
Saying that though, there does seem to be a higher than usual amount of players being transferred between Premiership sides this summer.

nice 1 svennis ...good business
brits are to expensive .. in sven we trust..
bluemoonbaz
you never know the transfer window has not ended yet so we could still get the likes of defoe and crouch .
I can see quite a few British players turning out regularly for City next season: Dunne, Richards, Ball, Onouha, Ireland, and Johnson to mention the most obvious ones. We do need quality players to help our British lads, and us wishing a player to sign is not the same as the player wishing to sign for us. So far I believe Sven has been wise. He's not spending over the top and that is definitely a good sign!
Guys, lighten up a bit ...... it was meant to be tongue in cheek - I think it's a great signing
To Sven H.You got it wrong, both Dunne and Ireland are Irish not British, so that's two off your list!
Remember a little known short-arse arriving on a free in the Keagan era.... Yes Ali B. Wasn't he a play maker??? Oh yes!!! Maybe just maybe we could get a little more excited...
Glad to see Sven is making quality signings that have never been mentioned in the media...Well done Sven keep the media chasing red herrings !!
English players are OVERPAID, OVERPRICED AND OVERRATED.....ok Sven bring in as many foreigners as you like.
Dunnie? ... British? ... RoI 'left' the UK quite some time ago
Have I missed something when was Sven's 'Buy British Policy' announced ???
There will be a few Brits a lot less soon wait and see I aint naming them because I would be moving on in the same position a scouse outfit maybe involved
Check the link on -H-'s comment in this thread. sky sports published it about half an hour before City announced we'd signed a Brazilian, hence this article.
I didn't think people would take it literally though.... not normally like City fans to lose their sense of humour !
Yes I saw the Sven interview on Sky when he said " It is very difficult to buy good British players" He obviously agrees with my earlier comment
for a start, we need to bolster the squad, also he oporates mainly as a playmaking AMC.
Get behind the teams blues!
LOL. Dunnie and Ireland are Irish all right (although I suspect Ireland could have played for England if he wanted to, and got the chance). Could have mentioned Dickov instead, but that would have been pushing it a bit to far ;-)
As for making tongue in cheek comments; my old headmaster always said; "if you're going to play with irony you'd better know what you're doing"....
Did he also talk about the importance of getting ones facts right? ;-)
buy defoe and i reckon we will be ok for the season
i'm glad that we did not buy kieran richardson because he wouuld of been a flop
Richardson is a trouble maker and we can certainly do without his sort.
