Please Not Lehmann !

A load of speculation today that Sven will be in for aging Arsenal 'keeper Jens Lehmann (now 37) to bring in a bit more experience and increase competition for the No1 jersey.

I really hope this is just a case of wild speculation, as I for one would not like to see him at Eastlands.

I think Sven needs to be very careful with his next wave of signings as so far he's been very fortunate to have assembled a group of players that (a) seem to gel very well together and (b) have a good relationship with the crowd. This has been a significant contributory factor to City's best ever start for over 30 years.

I don't think Lehmann fits either of the above criteria and over the past few season's he has by far been the 'keeper who has irritated and angered the City fans the most with his "gamesmanship" and unsavoury antics, particularly at corners and set pieces around his area - you all know what I mean.

I would think it unlikely that many City fans would welcome his arrival and warm to the man. I can't see that it would do wonders for team spirit in the changing room either.

The 'keepers position at the moment does need to be resolved, but I hope not like this. Both Schmeichel and Hart have done ok so far, but they are still young kids and far from the finished article, but both have enormous potential.

I also increasingly get the feeling that Isaksson seems to be developing into a square peg in a round hole at City, as since his arrival under Pearce, he's had a string of unfortunate injuries and when he has been fit, I've never really felt that the management have shown total confidence in him. We'll just have to wait and see on that one, but what the guy needs for sure is a decent run of games and to stay healthy.

Personally, I'd stick with what we've got for now and have another look at things at the end of the season.

I think "gamesmanship" and "unsavoury antics" is massively understating it.
He's a cheat and not welcome at City

don't take much notice of who the papers are linking us with.
sven has already said he would be very surprised if any of our targets had made the papers, besides they embarassed themselves enough in the summer by not predicting any of our targets until the signings were more or less complete!
links like crouch, defoe, lehmann (WTF?!) are just lazy journolism

What makes you think he would like to go to a small and crap club like yours?

Always nice to see this blog is being looked at by Reds !

Jens was a great keeper for several seasons ... he was magnificent in our invincibles season. He is however hugely flawed in temperament. His rants against Almunia in the paper are rants at himself aging. Its a shame he is going about his decline with such a lack of dignity. Sven wont sign him but if you do it will be an error. One thing is for sure he wont play for Arsenal again. Good luck city...

germanys keeper would do for me he might of made a couple of mistakes at start of season but would add that experience at the back we need

Rags! Always good for a larf aint you me old cocksparrer.....

wheteher you like him or not over the last 10 years he has been the best keeper in europe and twice was votted european keeper of the year. and was votted best keeper in the last worldcup squad, the fact he kept 10 clean sheets in a row in the champs league no other keeper has managed to do that.

lehamann is a better keeper than both hart and schm but he is ageing and a lot of people are calling him a sh** keeper because of his lastest mishaps

Used to be good.

A bit like David Seaman.

No thanks.

You can all rest at night Sven never signs anyone that the media have been banding around. Just wait until January to see more gems being pulled out of the hat...good man Sven keep 'em all guessing !!!

Agreed, Lehmann was a decent 'keeper in his day, but that was a while ago and certainly not the case today.

He's just not the right fit for City. Like some of you have suggested, Sven is probably using him as a decoy - hope so anyway.

Please calm down, Sven will not sign Lehmann in a million years. Just think about it - how does he fit the profile of his signings up to now? Probably originates from some rag hack in the press wanting to wind up City fans because they can't stand the fact that we're on the up - remember the totally unfounded Phil Neville rumour and the unnecessary outrage that was provoked by that suggestion?

Don't want Lehman? How about Robinson? hahah

I'm an Arsenal fan and one of the few who thought Sven did a good job with an overrated England. I'm not suprised he's doing well with City. There is no way he'll ever buy Lehman, he'll be back in Germany in January.

I'm a gunner fan, I think Sven is doing a great job with Man City. They're a very nice team to watch...after Arsenal of course :)

Lehmann has great moments of goal keeping but he also have horrible moments of weird mistaks and fights. I really don't think a man of Sven's experience would sign him. If Arsene is letting him go, be assured that he is done and there is no use of him.

I think Man City will do will this season, but may end up in 6 - 8 position, but they can be a real force next season.

Good Luck Man City fans

He wouldn't show your fans, players or manager any respect, would moan about not being selected every week, and probably wouldn't want to go to mid table club when clubs with Champions League prospects in the Bundesliga are sniffing about.

Lehmann, made two blunders in three matches at the start of the season which cost Arsenal points.

Please take Mad Jens.

why would sven want an old washed up german has been, when he already has one called hamman

Who's unhappy Citeh are on the up? Maybe not happy Sven for doing so well, but who holds a grudge against city as a club? That's a bit paranoid ain't it anon 21:49?

Didnt Sven-Goran said this summer that they wanted to buy players who were young or in their prime, i dont see Lehamn fitting into that, im almost sure that if we go get another kepper we get another one.

Cheers to all the Gooners for their kind words - they know Lehmann better than me, so hope City are taking note.

Where do the media get all this drivel about us signing players.

On the same subject has anyone read any reports in the press about Micah Richards staying with the club and NOT asking for get out clauses.... I think not the truth doesn't sell newspapers.

Jens may not be on top of his game right now, but he's still the german no.1 keeper. That tells us he's still rated by his national team boss. He would do a good job for City, although, he'd wind up all opposition fans like he has with you City fans! I love the way he does that, although he has cost us a few times. I mean, if it weren't for him, we'd have maximum points so far!

Maybe a move would give him the focus he needs.

Good luck City.

I think Jens will go to Citeh in the winter transfer window as part of the Micah Richards deal.

Anonymous said...

Yeah, it will be part of the deal for Richards. It would be a massive boost to City, he is probably too good for them if anything. Oh and the gamesmanship around his area? You are kidding me right? Every team he plays against decides to wind him up by stamping on his feet, shoving him etc etc. So no, he is not the cheat in that instance...it's scum like Dickov

Anonymous said...

Straight swap Lehmann for Richards ;-)

(JOKE!)

Bluesology said...

Anonymous 10:25 .... I remember the incident with Dickov (one of your ex-players by the way), and it was 6 of 1 and half a dozen of the other, Lehmann should have got a booking as well.

You paint him out to be some sort of model professional when he's not. For the most part, he is the instigator and more than other 'keepers (Dida excluded), reacts extravagantly and inappropriately to the slightest challenge, something that strikers are allowed to do.

I'm based over in Germany now and get to see alot of football and what has struck me is the amount of good goalkeepers over here.

People can't believe how bad the standard is in England. Plenty of people think Germany's fifth choice keeper would walk into the England side.

So, if he is their number one he should be good.

37 is not old for a goalkeeper. Paul Power was near that age (I think) when he helped Everton win the league in the 80's. I think Lehmann would celebrate if he scored against Arsenal!

Sven will take him if he does gets a chance.

Have just come back from watching my home team Morecambe beat Bradford 2-1 in the Division 2 game. Was very impressed with the standard of play, in fact it was better than watching City last year.

I have noticed that Shaleum Logan has scored on his debut on his months loan to Grimsby Town, it's amazing how our loan players are banging in the goals this season.

Bluesology said...

Alphie,

Let's face it, watching paint dry more entertaining than watching City last season.

Logan looks another good prospect from Jim Cassell's production line.

Bluesology said...

Is this betting.....

Yes, but I don't ever recall Paul Power playing in goal... but I know what you're saying ;-)

Viele Gruesse !

I laughed when I read the title.
Lehman... Please... Rot in hell... It wouldn't do City any good if Lehmann played for you. He's a wanker who has no respect for anybody and deserves to die. I fucking hate him and so do many other gooners, yeah he was great in teh champs league and got us to the final... then what did he do? Yeah, run 25 yards out to trip Eto'o and forced Arsenal to play with 10 man for about 75 minutes.

All the luck to Citeh, very impressed.
