Why Take The Risk With Ljundberg?

Reports today that Sven is on the brink of signing Freddie Ljundberg for £6m is not good news in my opinion.

Ljundberg in his prime was a fantastic player, but now at 30 is not good value for that sort of money plus the high wages he'll almost certainly command.

Add to that the fact that for the past two seasons, he's been dogged by injuries and it doesn't look a particularly smart buy. If it happens, as it now seems it will, it is likely to end up in the same way as Reyna, Cole, Hamann, Fowler, McManaman etc with them spending more time with the physio than on the pitch.

We need to sign younger, fit and hungry players and avoid 30-somethings whose careers are declining, something City have made a speciality of over the years and it's never worked.

Sven should listen to Micah and sign Defoe instead - that would be a much better investment !

I'm starting to get a bit worried about the players we're being linked with. They are not the sorts of names that a lot of City fans will have wanted to hear. I agree Defoe would be a better signing, he's young, fit and proven in the Premiership

Come on we'll get some youth and Fredie would be good for a couple of seasons he is strong, well skilled and very quick when he is not injured. Lets see if he comes to us and then judge him on his merits...

Loz.... you hit the nail on the head - " when he is not injured ". It's the same thing with Owen, great when fit, but they are so prone to injuries

You have heared nothing from City. Just like the rest of your site Doom and Gloom. Grow up and wait and see

Most City fans want this to happen overnight.. we waited to long, nut 3-4 years is realistic. Get a hold of this situation guys

I would love City to get Defoe not only is he the kind of player that ticks all the right boxes but he's also a good friend of our prodigal son SWP.Freddie would be a great player for City without the pricetag.£6m no chance.Wenger paid half that for 7 years of prime service. We should be looking to get the next Freddie for £6m

"Linked with" are the operative words here.

How many links to new players have there been in the last couple of months along with managers?

Until I see them on tv or in the papers holding a shirt up, I will ignore the speculation. I suggest you do too.

We've been stung before signing players who have had their best years of their career at bigger more successful clubs. There is no doubt that we need experience as well as youth, but we need to make sure those experienced players have the right attitude.
Having watched Wilhelmsson on YouTube we need to snap him up at £2m!

sunji - sweet baby jesus, please don't think he's any good just cos of a youtube montage. i remember thinking samaras was the next zico after seeing his performances squashed into a 5-minute video

£6m for Ljundberg is the right player but the wrong price. We'd get 2 or 3 good years out of him but he'd have no sale value after that. He's probably worth £3m a year including wages, so if his wages are £50k a week, then his transfer value shouldn't be more than £2m.

Freddie may well increase our female & gay fanbase, but would spend most of his time on the couch being treated for one injury or another. There are many better ways to spend £6 million and 40k per week

What rubbish

He's 30 not 35.

Same age as Distin.

Henry missed more games through injury last season than Freddie

Just trying to be controversial to atract some interest I guess

In case you hadn't noticed, players like Torres, and Benayoun aren't interested in City.

we need someone to create chances for thenew forwards.

It would be a big risk buying an unknown foreigner to do this for us.

There are no english players who can do this apart from Joe Cole, Lennon, and SWP. If I have missed any, you can guarantee that they are unobtainable.

Get real!!

Lets get Freddy waring some 'City undies' and use the sales to pay his wages!!!
Reckon he definately would add something to our small squad he can play on both wings and can score the odd goal...
Sven will probably still sign 2 more wide players aswell so not bad for a start.

See the problem is letting SWP go for 21 million is he now thinks anything less is an insult!

Someone has written lets get the service to the forwards!!!

I don't think I saw (and I am a southerner so see very few games up close) but still I saw no punishment of other clubs from corners! Come on they are set plays we need players that can deliver a good cross or run ad defneder and take em on! Not blundering Corradi, Samaras or Dikov!!! Who brought Paul back were they stoopid!!!

Ljunberg would be a good addition for 2-3 years whilst we would be in transition to (hopefully) be building a really strong squad.

It won't happen overnight and that is the worry in that the 'success now' mentality will take over when Eriksson and the new regime need to put their stamp on the club and effectively re-build from the mess of the past couple of seasons.

I hope you're right Danny - it's not the player so much that concerns me, it's the massive fee. Ljundberg at £2m would be good business, but not £6m!

fredie would be ok if not ingured but 6 millon is too much

I don't know what all the fuss is about....he is going to Fiorentina....

I agree with concerns about the price for Freddie. 3million at the most, anymore would be throwing money away.
