Not Impressed By Transfer Targets
Now that the euphoria of Sven's appointment has subsided a bit, the attention is switching to the new signings.
I know that a much of the transfer speculation is generated by groundless media gossip and hype from desperate player agents, but I have to say that I'm a bit worried about a lot of the players we've been linked with so far.
Firstly, and I hope Sven and his team are reading this, please don't sign any United rejects - stories about the imminent signings of Richardson, Alan Smith, Veron, Beckham and Christ help us, even Phil Neville certainly sent my alarm bells ringing.
Sven's first priority has got to be on survival and make sure we don't end up in a relegation scrap again. Therefore, he has got to be very smart with his signings and minimise risks where possible.
What we need first and foremost is a core of quality players with a proven track record in the Premiership. What we don't want is to gamble everything on a load of big money continental unknowns that may or may not work out. City's recent history is littered with failed foreign signings and we can't afford to make that mistake again.
I've read with some concern the likes of Christian Wilhelmsson, Roque Santa Cruz, Steven Pienaar, Rolando Bianchi & Johan Elmander - one of these unknowns maybe, but not all of them! Hopefully, most of these names are just "spoilers" whilst City turn their real attentions elsewhere. I read with amusement that Bernard Mendy has been linked yet again - that's the 4th consecutive year I've seen that one !
Close to home, names including Dudek, Harewood, Ljundberg & Paul Konchesky seem to be cropping up a lot, but these are not the sort of signings many Blues will be expecting - we can do a lot better. Besides, we don't really need another 'keeper, we're already well covered with Hart, Schmeichel and Mentel.
Yakubu though seems a much better bet, although the reported £12m is taking things to the point of being ripped off, and that is something that Sven will have to weigh up carefully; £50m wont go far at that rate.
Hopefully, it's going to be a busy few weeks for City and if you guys have any decent suggestions, stick them on this post - you never know, Sven must just be "googling" for inspiration.

Gamst-Pedersen and David Bentley for starters
Have you never heard of speculation and paper talk you muppet
Jimmy Bullard
bury the hatchet and get Anelka back
I was going to suggest Forlan, but you said no ex-Rags allowed
Forlan has just gone to athletico madrid to replace torres. I have seen videos of the two swedish players and they both look decent but i wouldnt give £17 mill for the striker. The italian scored 18 goals in italy so would be good at the right price. But like you the names being mentioned dont fill me with confidence or excitement for the season. But even though we have money you have to remember we havnt won anything and are not in europe so players wont want to come so we have to be realistic this summer as to who we can sign. Listening to frank it sounds as though there is no limit to the spending, he knows he has to spend big as he said quality comes before money. Would love to see us sign Danial Carvalho (the brazilian midfielder) he is pure quality.
Riquelme, yakubo, and anelka for starters
I am a swede loving premier league I can tell Elmander would be a great signing Wilhelmsson I am more dubious
Anelka Crouch Eastwood (Mpenza)
Think Eastwood has just gone to Wolves
"I hope Sven and his team read this..." And then what??? You're still just the "average season ticket holder". Or have that changed?. Who gives a shit what kind of players that will impress you!!!
always nice to hear from a Red ;-)
Some of those newspapers put crap out just to wind people up. Neville, my arse!
No-one knows who Sven will buy but I am sure he is well attuned to our svensitivity(sorry about that!)
The future is sky blue!
*ALL* of the transfer speculation is generated by groundless media gossip and hype from desperate player agents.....so chill out!
how much truth there was about the torres bid is debateable but if it was true then just how much are they willing to spend. frank has never said 50 million he has just said maybe 5,6 or seven players i think frank is about to do an abramovich.look at the facts even though he has just lost 1.5 billion he doesnt seem to concerned, that may just be small change and eriksson has a great record but he has always had a fat chequebook 50 million is a lot but it only buys you 3 or four quality players city need more than that to finish half way i dont think eriksson would of risked more flak unless he has a genuine chance of building a great team ,maybe im just an optimist but having followed city for 30 odd years i think im entitled to be
Eidur Gudjohnsen and Leroy Lita would do for starters...
we should get quaresma from porto, mario gomez from bayern munich
Shinawatra isn't going to do an Abramovich, he hasn't anything like that sort of money at his disposal, though he might want to pretend he does. He has still only paid off about £20m of our debts, the other £40m or so has for the time being been transferred to the holding company he has used to buy the club. When he's spent the £50m that's being talked about, and our wage bill has risen to twice our turnover, what happens then?
It's all good fun isn't it!! What we don't seem to be commenting on is players wages. City's ceiling of £40k is, I assume, about to be raised. If so, in these days of 'mercenary' footballers, how important will playing European football really be? If Frank's going to pay them (and their agents) what they want, then I think we may see a few welcome surprises. And I would be happy to see the Elk back - he uses us, we use him, everyone's happy (or as happy as he'll ever look...)
Swordfish7 sums up my feelings perfectly. Let's wait and see who actually turns up, because the papers obviously don't have a clue. The rag supporters in the press will do their best to p*ss on our chips and dampen our renewed enthusiasm and optimism. Some are worse than others - in particular I'd urge all City fans never to buy a copy of the Mirror or the Times ever again!
Is the person who wrote the header an idiot or a red - everyone mentioned in the press would be better to add to a squad of only 16 - he thinks that if the players are ex-reds they are no good - they usually do well for us as they have bottle - I hate shit heads who only see the bad side - if you want instant success cough up some cash yourself or go & watch the red shite - Phil Neville was the best midfield holder in the premiership except Makelele - so if we bought M from Chelsea would he be too dear -grow up & get real, £ 50m would buy 1 rooney & 1 hargreaves - we need 7 to 10
Blah blah blah blah blah!!! Its always the same isn't it? we whinge and moan about everything. All the speculation is just that, a load of bollocks. Svens been around long enough o know what he's doing, Franks got enough savvy to wrap up 75% of shares even though he's being persecuted by a military regime, and still we whinge and moan about nothing. Lets let Sven do his job and we can all sit back and enjoy the ride!! Come on City, the lights are big and bright!
Agree with you about the 'No Rags' thing though, maybe Frank should have put a "No rag" clause into the contract??!!!
If u had any knowledge of europeon fottbal u wud no tht all the player tht we hav been linked wiv all play 4 their country and have 40+ plus caps, but u r rite wiv the the man u assholes dont want any of them Eww
Anonymous 22:08 .... crazy maybe, but never Red....although from your comments, sounds like you have some leanings in that direction
Gudjohnsen is class, Lita young and quick and has scored Prem goals, Makelele, Nolan, Bentley for midfield and Baines/Shorey for defence - no keeper required but if they have to Jaskelenin.
You know some of you lot have to take reality into mind. Where City maybe linked with worldclass players or players usually linked with champs league clubs...city themselves may not be big enough at this time to draw them to play for us. This in mind you have to understand that city will not publish (player snubbed us because story)...they will simply go for the next best....which im sure many will shout out wtf...why didnt we just sign kaka instead. Money is a big help and so is having a manager to attract players, but time will bring the players...as they say...Rome wasnt built in a day ;)
as we know nothing is straight forward when our club is involved but i think Svennis is very clever and he would'nt have got involved if their was'nt anything in it for him .He has a point to prove to the premier league, FA and all the main managers, so obviously he feels this is the platform where he can do it well.
we are lucky to have him hes as good as any of the top 4 managers.
we have to give him some city love and he'll be ok.
for now we need good players who will play with pride for the shirt and the fans, not like all the bosmans and journey men as before. we need a top player in each line we will see what does when he does it
happy dayz
you city fans are certainly a bunch of moaning old gits!
get a life and back your team !
Yossi Benayoun would add a lot of creativity to the team.
"we are lucky to have him hes as good as any of the top 4 managers"
No he isn't, none of the top 4 would touch him with a barge pole now.
And it's going to get harder when your owner is in prison and all his assets have been seized.
Happy days!
tracy go an moan about your own team
