Keeper Choice Beggars Belief

As it's a bit quiet on the City front at the moment, I just thought I'd come to the defence of a City old boy, David James and like many, I just cannot understand why he has not made the England squad for the up-coming games against Estonia and Brazil.

At a time where McLaren has given into media pressure to recall a largely ineffective and vastly over-rated Beckham to the squad, the England boss has again ignored Jammo, who for me was this season's outstanding 'keeper.

On recent form, James stands head and shoulders above the three 'keepers who were selected, namely Messrs Robinson, Carson and Green and why he hasn't made the squad or let alone the starting spot is yet another example of gross misjudgement by McLaren.

James will always divide opinion, but surely even his most vocal critics will recognise his outstanding performances this season and last season for that matter when he played for us.

I know he has made some errors, but name me a 'keeper who hasn't? Furthermore, his most memorable gaffs took place many years ago, and for the past 3 or 4 seasons, he has been rock solid. Some of the saves I've seen him make for City have been breath-taking and world class.

It's difficult to know just exactly what more Jammo needs to do to get back into the squad, but given a choice between Beckham and James, I know which old boy I'd go for.

Overlooking James is just another example of why Mclaren should not be England manager

I'm a Pompey fan and agree with you 100%. James has been unbelievable for us this season. Also, thanks for Distin... if he's half as good a signing as James was, he'll still be fantastic

first of all i knew james was the best keeper in england when he played for us, i m more worried about the swede we ve got in nets, pearce put him in just as the team started to pick up,hence, the keeper gets the credit for the clean sheets, his kicking is shocking and he tends to fumble.

i think you ll find mclaren is trying to keep his job by picking beckham, the england fans were singing for him, but really do we need an oap to beat the mighty estonia, if this guy keeps picking the same dross then we will be out in the 1st rd of the finals should we make it.

I guess I've been called a bitter blue so many times by our friends from Stretford that I've got used to it; plus it sums up the overall mood of the club for the last few years. As for England & Mclaren, I've given up watching as it's soooo dull

forgot to say i like the website but i just guess its missing a bit of content, you would get more hits if more city fans knew where to find it,try taking an ad out in the king of the kippax or another mag

Have to say spot on, the thing with England is the is no other football on when they play so you watch it. But the truth is you would not choose to watch it ! Mclaren is not the man to do the job. Beckham is not the man to turn the team around, just as James is no long term answer but would be the form choice. Good article again

It just shows what a crap England side we have when he has to bring in an OAP to try and beat the likes of Estonia....that says it all...

Hi Bluesology,
Has nothing to do with your current articles but I am asking for your help concerning information or iews on two ManCity heroes.
I am a postgraduate student at the University of Brighton and my MA-dissertation is concerned with fan views on German players in English professional football. At the centre of my research are five players including ManCity's Uwe Rösler (1994-1998) and, of course, Bert Trautmann.
It is vital for my thesis to know especially fom the fan's perspective how and why Rösler became a cult figure in Manchester. I found some stuff about Trautmann, but I could not figure out why, when and how Rösler became a City hero. As you maybe remember, he came to the club in March 1994 on loan from Dynamo Dresden. At the beginning of the next season he got a proper contract and was already very popular. Fans created an own song for him which ended at the end of the year in the creation of a special t-shirt saying "Uwe's granddad bombed Old Trafford". I really need to find out how his relationship with ManCity fans started, whether you loved him straight away (maybe because of your positive experience with Trautmann) or because of any special thing that happened.
Would be great if you could tell me your own experience). Furthermore, if you know people who might be able to tell me their view, please ask them to write to this email address (GermanFootballer@gmail.com). Anyone who answers should, if possible, tell his name, his age, for how long he has been a City supporter and how he follows the team (TV, internet, newspaper, stadium) so that I get an idea of his involvement with the club.
I am really desperate and I would appreciate it very much if you could assist me with this problem.
Thank you in advance and best regards,

Robin
