Mido Not The Answer For City

It's been widely reported that City have tabled a £3m bid for Spurs' Egyptian striker Mido.

One the one hand it's nice to see City being linked with international strikers instead of Division 1 players for a change, but I don't really see Mido as the answer to our goal-scoring problems.

Last night's Carling Cup semi final between Spurs and Arsenal confirmed to me that Mido is pretty much like the two strikers we already have ( Samaras and Corradi ), namely big and slow. On a number of occasions last night, he got absolutely nowhere near good crosses and his lack of pace was clear to see.

I also have some nagging doubts about his fitness and temperament and his ability to last a full season. Our last couple of strikers (Messrs Anelka and Cole) were also known for being aloof and moody and I don't think having such players doesn't anything for team spirit.

What we're crying out for up front is pace, and clearly, despite Mido's undoubted talents, this isn't one of them

The lad only played for 9 minutes, at a time when Arsenal were incessantly attacking anyway

Mido is class. So was Anelka. I don't care if he's mardy as long as he can bury it in the back of the net fairly regularly. That's something that our other 'strikers' can't manage. Basing your view on last night is unfair as he is not getting regular first team football.

why waste £3m on a striker who hasnt proved he can do it at premiership level.. Personally i'd gamble on McLeod from MK Dons who we'd get for probably less than half of that £3m price tag.

Hmmmmmm am I wrong in saying that we do have pace up front in Vassell?? Obviously not the best finisher but we all know that. We need someone to hold up the ball up (Samaras/Corradi cannot do that) and then find the back of the net ! Surely there is someone out there. I personally like Mido.

City have been linked in the past with Mido (only to be pipped by Tottenham). He does look class, but came on a a difficult stage for Spurs last night. I think that he could do a decent job for us if given a run. I think 'the one that got away' was Jason Roberts - he is one of only a few with both significant pace and power.

Mido will do for me at least he knows where the back of the net is.
He will be cheap compared to the likes of Macken.

£3million is a lot though for a BIG premiership gamble.. i think the only goal Mido has scored for Tottenham was against Man City if i'm right... but to be fair, everyone has a field day against us.
Bring back Niall Quinn and Uwe Rosler

Interesting.... I remember suggesting on another board about a couple of years ago that City ought to have taken a gamble on buying both Jason Roberts and Nathan Ellington as a ready-made strike partnership. This was in the days when they both played for Wigan and had just won promotion. I also remember being shot down in flames for daring to suggest it, but it sure would have been better than what we've had.

BLUESOLOGY - Are you actually going to comments on any of the things people have said about your article ??? Or by the sounds of it you'd rather wallow in self glory for your Roberts/Ellington prediction !!!

I think Bluesology was right though.. being honest

Hey, I can't comment on everything, but point taken. Anyway, if I was interested in wallowing in self-glory, I'd be supporting United !

Heard the latest?...

Man City to consider Swap deal.. Joey Barton or Micah Richards in exchange for Mido and Cash...

Give us £15m and Defoe and they can have Joey..

Bluesology said...

Can't see that happening - who'd want to go to Spurs anyway? After all that Barton and Richards have said in the last few days about staying with City, it seems extremely unlikely that they'll move in this transfer window.

Sign Izale McLeod from MK Dons and Jermaine Easter from Wycombe

Them 2 are Stars of the Future.

ANONYMOUS...Mido has scored 63 goals in 145 appearances and is still only 23.. this is the sort of player we want.

Big name signings have never lived up to their billing at City whilst our home grown talent tends to excel. Daniel Sturridge should be paired with Vassel. Corradi should go work on Blackpool beach with the rest of his ilk.

Couldn't agree more mammutly. Most of our best recent players have come up through the Academy ranks; SWP, Barton, Richards, Onouha,Ireland etc. Sturridge will play very soon, once he's got a few more games under his belt as he's just returned from a long injury. We should be looking at other quality players from outside, but we need the right players, not just the ones who happen to be available at the time.

Macleod has a dodgy temperment, he's been sent off 3 times this season already & Sturridge is not ready for Premiership football yet. He may have got a hat-trick for the reserves but he could have had 6 on the night & is too naive. Nick,Congleton

Does anyone know anywhere on the net where city matches are streamed live?

Mido is a Goal Getter. look at his goals per time played with Spurs last season... Samaras will be the goods in time.Corradi Personally I believe he should have game time and Corradi can sit and Curl his Hair on the Bench... 3 Mill For Mido!!! Good business compared to Macken Vousso and Corradi. Tell m. Is Dabo as Bad as he looks on the Box??? Mister Giveaway.

Dabo is a solid if unspectacular player, almost in the Bosvelt mode, but not quite as combative. I think he'll improve once he's settled down in the team, but his passing has been shocking of late
